Expedition Supervisor Training

This one day training course provides expedition supervisors with an understanding of their role and the skills required to ensure they can deliver a high quality expedition experience for all young people.

This is a nationally recognised accreditation that explores the role and responsibilities of an expedition supervisor within the DofE framework. Course content will include expedition supervision, the role of the supervisor, the process of remote supervision, duty of care and the importance of emergency procedures.

On completion of the course, candidates are expected to be able to develop flexible supervision plans that meet the DofE framework.

Course detail

The DofE Expedition Supervisor training course (ESTC) is the national training route to becoming an accredited Expedition Supervisor.

Course content will include:

· Expedition supervision

· The role of the supervisor

· The aims and principles of the expedition section

· The requirements and 20 conditions of the section

· Safety and emergency procedures relating to expeditions

· The expedition supervisor's duty of care

Prerequisites

The following must be held prior to this course:

  • Candidates should hold a recognised expedition supervisor qualification for example Basic Expedition Leader, Lowland Leader Award, Mountain Leader etc.
  • Some experience of delivering DofE expedition training
  • Recommendation from an Operating Authority
  • Endorsement of technical competence from the Operating Authority
  • Completed DofE e-induction
